artist-confessions:

this is an issue that happens with a lot of my friends, even my closest ones.
what keeps happening is that i’ll get down on myself, or my art — just like anyone does! — and the root of their argument against my self degrading is usually something like this. but that…doesn’t really help? because plenty of things are ~~ popular ~~ for wrong reasons, and ~~ popularity ~~ doesn’t make something good. i get over it eventually, and overall my self esteem has been getting better, but it is still a pretty big pet peeve.
another thing that they’ll do is just. get jealous. REALLY jealous, to the point where they get mad at me if i so much as mention one of the things i did that received attention? they’ll say something like “oh, must be nice” “i wish i could get xxx many notes on MY art” or turn around and shame themselves and it! makes me feel really terrible!! like i should feel bad about doing something that people happened to enjoy
i’m not even shoving it in their faces or anything? just mentioning it?? because they’re artists too and i like sharing my art with them and they share there art with me
but it’s like i’m not allowed too because i’m too ~~ popular ~~ and i don’t need compliments from friends or support from them because i can just get that from my oooooh so many fans!!!!
sighs
it feels as if they’re only seeing me as my follower count or my dA watcher count or how many notes i get on things, and not as me anymore, y’know?
i hate it ;;
(hell, i’m not even that popular?? idk what 1k watchers/~ 4k followers equals in terms of popularity but not a WHOLE lot i would think?)
this’ll probably be the only time i confess on anon, haha.

Because people want you to stop being “negative about your skills” and tell you that to cheering you up. Because they don’t really care about your own opinion. Because they don’t know the difference between a lack of self-esteem and a real criticism you give to yourself. Because they care more about popularity than quality. Those people don’t understand all the problems that come with popularity, they don’t want to imagine it but they still want to be at your place anyway. People don’t think about all the reasons fans have to enjoy a pic, why 1k of anons should be more important that the friends/artists you’re caring about ?
You have the right to dislike your drawings, in fact if you don’t, you will never improve. Don’t you ever feel bad because other people are jealous, your own enjoyment is what matter before anything else.
People who get jealous about popularity clearly don’t know what they talking about.

abandonedography:

Thonis-Heracleion (the Egyptian and Greek names of the city) is a city lost between legend and reality. Before the foundation of Alexandria in 331 BC, the city knew glorious times as the obligatory port of entry to Egypt for all ships coming from the Greek world. It had also a religious importance because of the temple of Amun, which played an important role in rites associated with dynasty continuity. The city was founded probably around the 8th century BC, underwent diverse natural catastrophes, and finally sunk entirely into the depths of the Mediterranean in the 8th century AD. (via)

Chocolate Flower Tutorial

1. Blow up 5 inch balloons to different sizes

2. Melt chocolate in a bowl; drizzle different colours of chocolate on top

3. Dips balloons in the bowl and rock them front to back, left to right

4. Place them on baking paper to set; once set cut a tiny hole in the neck of the balloon so they deflate slowly

5. Stack different sized cups inside each other to make a flower

6. Alternatively, make all the flowers the same size and use them as edible dessert bowls!
